Tips for the Perfect Guest Room

Having a guest bedroom in your home is something of a luxury for many homeowners. When friends and family members come to visit, being able to provide them with a nice room to stay in is a great way to show your true host colors. If you have a spare bedroom in your home that’s not in immediate use then making it into a guest room is a great way to take advantage of the space. As any host knows, turning your guest room from a simple room into something magical takes a little more work than simply bringing in a bed and a few extras. If you’re looking to treat your guests to the ultimate in luxury and show just how much your care then there are a few steps you should follow when creating your guest room. From furniture to trinkets, the list below can be a great help if you’re looking for ways to make the most of your room.

Ambience is Important

Think about any past hotel or motel rooms that you’ve stayed in. If you notice one thing about them then it’s more than likely going to be the décor. While most hotel rooms aren’t the most exciting in terms of what they put on display, there is one reason they work. Most hotel rooms are neutral colored and invite a ‘homey’ feeling to them. In other words you aren’t going to get a headache from neon stripes or loud colors. The same should go for your guest room. Try to include neutral colors in the design scheme. Certain colors invite comfort and serenity which is what every guest staying in your home deserves. There are plenty of ways to make your guest room exciting while also making it an inviting place to relax in. To create the right ambience in your room you can always try candles, tart burners, or pictures to make the room fun and relaxing. Your guest room doesn’t necessarily need to look like a hotel room but making sure it’s a calm environment is always the right move.

It’s the Little Things

Treating your guests to a little something extra is always a gesture that will be appreciated beyond measure. Nice hotels usually include little goodies for guests to enjoy during their stay. Doing the same in your guest bedroom is a perfect touch that will leave your guests talking about their stay for months after. It doesn’t matter if your guests are family or friends, everyone appreciates small gestures. Find out which candies your guests like best and include a jar on the bedside table especially for their stay. Snacking on a favorite candy can easily put your guest at ease. As much as we all try to make the most of packing, there are always some things we’ll forget along the way. Keep this in mind when you’re putting together your guest room. Include travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, toothpaste, and a new toothbrush just in case your guest has forgotten theirs in the hurry of packing. These items don’t cost much and can usually be found at your local dollar store.

Proper Furniture

You can always find cheap furniture to spice up a room. Remember that while cheap furniture is good for some things, creating a guest room might take furniture that is a little more stable. Your guests will be sitting on this furniture and sleep in the bed. You’ll want them to have a good sleep and a place to relax in during the day if they prefer the company of their room. Providing furniture that ensures both is a great way to turn your guest room from a place to sleep into a place to recharge and relax. A solid bedframe is always a good idea to have. Whether you find it in an antique store or buy it offline you will want a sturdy frame that lasts. The most important part of the entire room is the mattress. Invest in a mattress that is comfortable and high quality. It might not seem like a good place to spend the money when transforming your guest room but consider just how much a good night’s sleep can change your mood. On the plus side – a guest bedroom isn’t likely to be used a lot so the bed won’t wear down nearly as fast as your own mattress. Having the right furniture for the room will make your guest room a complete paradise for any guests lucky enough to stay with you.
